Noise Exclusive: Discover Jutes Via Chilled-Out Stripped-Down Version Of “Everyone Knows”

Look, we’re pretty confident 2020 will be the year musical genres die. Let’s face it: practically every songwriter is influenced by a wide range of artists combining different sounds, vibes and instrumentation. Take nothing, nowhere. and Yungblud, for example.

Following that lead and applying it to his own craft is Canadian crooner Jutes. Gearing up to dominate 2020 with the release of his genre-blending EP Overrated, the motivated musician is ready to see his work reach new heights.

“I called this EP Overrated because I thought it was kind of funny,” Jutes says slyly. “Of course, I think I’m underrated but I imagined the project blowing up and getting overplayed and me being able to say ‘see I told you this EP is totally overrated.’”

All jokes aside, the soon-to-be star opened up more about his forthcoming record commenting, “This EP is very special to me. It was all written before I even signed a deal so it’s as organic and homegrown as possible. I mean most of it was written and recorded in my bedroom. I’ve always wanted to drop projects but ended up scrapping them last minute. My day one fans have got to think I’m crazy by now with the amount of times I’ve told them a project is coming.”

He added, “The subject matter on [Overratted] is more or less me talking about relationships from all angles. Past ones that sucked, ones that never even were and the one that I’m still happily in right now. The odd one out is “I’m Not Ready” which is about my uncle who passed away last year. Most people will probably assume it’s about a break up though.”

In preparation for his upcoming release, which hits streaming services March 5th, today Jutes is teaming up with The Noise to premiere a stripped-down performance video of his infectious lead single “Everyone Knows.”

Talking about the clip starring just Jutes and guitar player Jake Doforno, the vocalist shared, “Filming the live stripped version of ‘Everyone Knows’ was sick. I flew to Toronto to do it with my homies at Sideways Studios. They’re a production company and have a dope YouTube channel for live performance videos and I’ve done a few songs on there which actually helped me get my record deal. Jake Doforno is a co-creator and co-owner of the company and he’s the guitar player in the video. He’s one of my best friends so it’s always fun and so easy working together. I met all those dudes when I went to film school before I dropped out.”

Jutes went on to say, “‘Everyone Knows’ is a record I was straight up just having fun with when I wrote it. It all came quickly, the hook was a freestyle and the verses I powered through while pacing around Andrew Luce’s (producer) living room. It’s about a girl I was in a relationship with who had me delusional and sucked me into her evil spell. [Laughs] just kidding it was just intense and weird and over pretty quickly. That’s what she said.”
