Love has been compared to a lot of different things throughout the years. It’s been labeled a drug, a curse, a war, a shield, a battlefield, a rose and even a game.

Regardless of however you characterize it, while that feeling of natural infatuation may be bliss, it can also be all consuming taking complete control of your entire life as if it were some sort of spell.

Knowing this feeling all too well, emerging emo rap superstar POORSTACY has constructed a brand new track with Blink-182′s Travis Barker aptly titled “Love Spells.”

Premiering today on The Noise, as the emotional emcee puts it, his new single touches on love and the stranglehold it can put on people.

“The song ‘Love Spells’ is about prior relationships and points in times when I was overly possessive with my loved ones.” says POORSTACY. “Pretty much, it’s about being too possessive in a relationship to the point where it’s like a spell – you feel possessed.”

As for how the song came together, the lyricist adds: “Travis Barker sent me production, I went to the studio and overall, the concept [for] ‘Love Spells’ came out. I came up with the chorus first ‘I hurt myself and I’ll do it again. Do you love yourself? Suicidal again. Don’t hurt yourself, it’s not the end. Don’t hurt yourself, it’s not the end’ which stands for trying to find a way out of a situation that you don’t think there’s any possible way out of.”

“To be honest,” he continues, “I never go into the creation process with anything pre-planned. I go in with an empty head so everything comes out naturally and my goal is to make the music as present as possible.”
