Get A Historically Accurate Look At Viking War In Amon Amarth’s Violent “Shield Wall” Video

To help celebrate the start of their Noise Presents tour with Arch Enemy, At The Gates and Grand Magus, Viking overlords Amon Amarth have just debuted a brand new music video for their Berserker track “Shield Wall.”

Diving into the storied history of Viking war, Amon Amarth’s new video is a first-hand battle experience portrayed by seasoned scholars and dedicated Viking reenactment groups.

Working with Phil Wallis and Alexander Milas/Twin V Ltd (the same team behind Amon Amarth‘s 2018 documentary The Pursuit of Vikings), “Shield Wall” was created to produce a historically accurate portrayal of the battlefield tactics Vikings were known for.

According to the band, they worked closely with Viking battle reenactor Igor Górewicz of the Triglav and Jomsborg Vikings and the music video was shot on location in Wolin, Poland – aka the site of the annual Festival of Slavs and Vikings. In addition, the video for “Shield Wall” also features extras from highly respected Viking reenactment groups such as Triglav, Maximas von Bracey’s Ulflag and Germany’s Blóðvítnir.

To sum it up, Amon Amarth’s new video is essentially the closest you’ll ever get to witnessing a Viking war in real life.
