Weezer’s Cover of “Africa” Is Now Officially A Thing With It Charting In The Top 100 And Being Performed On ‘Kimmel’

Well everyone, welcome to the article no one here at The Noise ever thought we’d write. After a fluctuating level of success over the past few years or so (see 2016′s White Album and 2017′s Pacific Daydream for proof), nerd rock aficionados Weezer have just jumped back into the alt rock hierarchy with their dad rock cover of the 80′s sensation “Africa.”

If you’re a fan of Weezer or you follow very closely to all things Toto related, then you are probably very aware of Weezer’s rendition which was released two weeks ago and has already accumulated 4.5 million views on YouTube. However, what you might not know is that the charming cover has helped Weezer land their first Hot 100 single in over a decade – no really, that’s true – as the track peaked at number 89 earlier this week.

Seriously, we can’t make this stuff up.

Now, to help prove just how much of an overnight sensation Weezer’s rendition has become, Rivers Cuomo and company hit Jimmy Kimmel Live last night to perform their cover for the very first time. To check out the performance which includes a special guest feature from Toto keyboardist Steve Porcaro, be sure to look below. Afterward, make sure to grab tickets to see Weezer out on tour with The Pixies all summer long here.
